Fishing for Natal Scalies on the ‪#‎Umgeni‬ ‪#‎River‬

On Saturday Duncan Hay, Andrew Mather and I fished for Natal Scalies on the ‪#‎Umgeni‬ ‪#‎River‬ and were well rewarded with several very good sized ‪#‎fish‬. The section of river we fished was on a farm which is situated on the ‪#‎Wartburg‬ road. The river flow was strong and water clarity good. 

Most of the fish were caught using a New Zealand rig with the flash-back nymphs as the point ‪#‎fly‬. Being a ‪#‎conservation‬ area this may well become a venue that I will be fishing at quite regularly in the future.

I have just got back from guiding a group of #Italian fly #anglers in the #Maldives. Despite not being there over an ideal moon phase the group did pretty well landing a GT, a #trigger & several #kingfish and #snapper species.

This morning 3 brassy #kingfish up to 55cm and 1 #bluefin kingfish were landed. As always we are hopeful of landing that big #GT within the next 2 days.’

A very special place!

Ben just spent five days at #Zingela which is on the banks of the #Tigela River. #Fishing for Yellows with a 7’6” 3 weight rod and catching a few really nice sized ones, the biggest being 55 cm.  Ben also hunted with his recurve bow, walking and stalking impala but could not get close enough to these very wary and illusive animals.  A very special place!

The concept is to offer guests the opportunity to experience genuine‪#‎Italian‬ family hospitality, combined with guided fly fishing on some of Italy’s famous trout rivers. As we all know ‪#‎cycling‬ is a very popular sport in ‪#‎Italy‬ so towns and villages are very geared to this, the opportunities for hiking are around every corner and of course, there are plenty of foodie experiences to enjoy. Where we shall be based is not far from the Adriatic coast plus we are only two hours away from major cities such as ‪#‎Rome‬and ‪#‎Naples‬, so sightseeing trips can be arranged.

We are also exploring the possibility of bringing Italians to South Africa to fish our ‪#‎trout‬ and ‪#‎yellowfish‬ Rivers.
